Nguyen Thanh Huyen, a graduating senior at Hanoi-Amsterdam High School for the Gifted, has been awarded a President's Honors Scholarship at California State University, Fresno (i.e., Fresno State). She was selected from a pool of over 600 applicants and will join a cohort of 50 student-scholars who will study together in the prestigious Smittcamp Family Honors College (http://www.fresnostate.edu/academics/honors/about/) while pursuing any of the over 60 majors that Fresno State offers. This prestigious scholarship covers state tuition and dormitory costs for four years.
“For me, choosing a college is about finding a supporting environment that most fits my personality that embraces my differences and will fuel me with resources and inspiration to succeed,” said Huyen. “I am thankful to everyone who has helped me find my "second home" at Fresno State, and wish to work and study with as much passion and ability that I have in the next four years!.”
According to Dr. Honora Chapman, director of the Honors College, “Huyen stood out as not only a superb student but also as a stellar community servant, and Fresno State also values her international background since it dovetails with our university's mission to celebrate diversity. I’m delighted that Huyen will be bringing her many talents to Fresno to share with her classmates and new community.” Dr. Bernie Vinovrski, Associate Vice President for Enrollment Services, added that he considers Huyen “to be among the most talented students that he ever recruited to Fresno State and that it was such an honor to meet her parents in Hanoi.”
“Capstone Vietnam is honored to have played a small role in helping facilitate this scholarship opportunity for Huyen,” noted Dr. Mark Ashwill, managing director. “I am deeply grateful to Dr. Vinovrski, Dr. Chapman, and their Fresno State colleagues for recognizing Huyen’s impressive achievements and her potential as a student and a scholar.”
