Purdue University, one of the top research universities in the world, is home to more than 39,000 students, including 8,562 international students from 126 countries around the world. Purdue University is proud of its rich cultural diversity. This fall semester they rank second in international student enrollment among all public United States colleges and universities.

The origin of this distinguished status goes back to 1951, when Purdue President Fred Hovde hired Art Tichenor as International Student Office director. Tichenor started an international student program virtually from scratch, working with admissions, helping with language problems and financial assistance, and involving people in the community to help international students adjust to their new home-away-from-home.

Nowadays, the Office of International Students and Scholars at Perdue continues enhancing the academic, cultural, and social pursuits of students and scholars from abroad through knowledge and expertise in admissions, immigration, advising, and cross-cultural programming.
